Ugandan Masala Chai tea

Equipment

  • A saucepan
  • A wooden mixing spoon
  • A grater or food processor to grate the ginger

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp tablespoons black tea leave
  • 2 tbsp Sugar or honey
  • 30g Fresh root ginger
  • 1 Cinnamon stick (Mdalasini)

Instructions
 

  • Add one cup of water to a saucepan and place it on the stove. Let it boil.
  • Once the water is boiling, add two tablespoons of black tea leaves and stir for about 30 seconds.
  • Add two cups of milk to the pot and stir.
  • Grate fresh root ginger using a grater or food processor and add it to the pot.
  • Add a cinnamon stick (Mdalasini) to the pot.
  • For added flavor, you can add spices like Basil leaves(Omujaaja), lemongrass(Kisubi), cloves, and other spices.
  • Let the mixture boil for 2-3 minutes.
  • Depending on your preferences, you can add sugar or honey.
  • Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes.
  • Remove the cinnamon sticks.
  • Serve hot with your favorite snack.

Notes

 
  • If you want a sweeter tea, you can add sugar or honey to taste.
  • You can also add other spices like cardamom, lemongrass, Basil leaves, or cloves to the recipe for added flavor.
  • For a vegan version of the recipe, you can use almond or soy milk instead of regular milk.
