Researchers have found that over 25 million people have died from AIDS since 1981, Over 300 children and adults die every day because of HIV/AIDS. African countries are badly plagued by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and are the countries with the highest rate of HIV/AIDS cases in the world.

AIDS kills almost one million people per year; in some countries, it is the main cause of death.

The distribution of death rates around the world is depicted in the interactive map. Most countries have a death rate of less than 10 per 100,000, and several have rates as low as 5 per 100,000. The death rate in Europe is less than one per 100,000.

High death rates are substantially greater in Sub-Saharan Africa. The majority of countries in the region’s south had rates of more than 100 per 100,000. It was over 200 per 100,000 in South Africa and Mozambique.
